- Configuring Notification Emails
Overview
Email notifications can be used to easily notify you of backup successes and failures. This can be especially useful when backups are run on a schedule and are not being actively monitored. To send email notifications, an email provider must be configured that will be used to send the Macrium Reflect notification email.
Macrium Reflect LTSC includes OAuth 2.0 to authenticate Macrium Reflect to send emails using your Microsoft or Gmail account. It's easy to set up and uses your account sign-in, including two-factor authentication if enabled, to securely authenticate.
Selecting an Email Provider
The email server that will be used to send the notification emails can be specified on the 'Email Settings and Defaults' page of the 'Reflect Defaults and Settings'.
The 'Reflect Defaults and Settings' can be accessed by selecting 'Edit Defaults and Settings...' in the 'Other Tasks' dropdown menu:
In the window that opens, select 'Email Settings and Defaults':
The 'Service Provider' dropdown can be used to select which email provider will be used to send the notification email.
This article details how to use OAuth 2.0 to use Gmail and Outlook as the email provider. Alternatively, 'Custom SMTP Server' can be used to manually enter the SMTP connection details for other service providers.
Google Gmail
Once 'Google - Gmail' has been selected, the following options will be displayed:
#
First, select 'Sign in with: Google'. The 'Sign in' page to log in to a Google account will open in the default browser:
Enter the authentication details for the Google account that will be used to send the email notifications, completing two-factor authentication if enabled.
A prompt will then be displayed to confirm that Google account details may be shared with the Macrium Reflect application. Select 'Continue'.
On the next page, select 'Allow' to enable Macrium Reflect LTSC to send email notifications using the entered Google account.
The following success message will then be displayed:
To confirm that the Google Gmail configuration was completed successfully, navigate back to Macrium Reflect, enter an email address in the 'Test Recipients' field of the 'Email Settings and Defaults' page, then select 'Test'.
If the email notifications have been correctly configured, the following message will be displayed, and the email address(es) entered in 'Test Recipients' will receive the test email.
Microsoft - Outlook 365
Once 'Microsoft - Outlook 365' has been selected, the following options will be displayed:
First, select 'Sign in with: Microsoft'. The 'Sign in' page to log in to a Microsoft account will open in the default browser:
Enter the authentication details for the Google account that will be used to send the email notifications, completing two-factor authentication if enabled.
Once the authentication has been completed, the following message will be displayed, indicating that the configuration was successful:
To confirm that the Microsoft Outlook 365 configuration was completed successfully, navigate back to Macrium Reflect, enter an email address in the 'Test Recipients' field of the 'Email Settings and Defaults' page, then select 'Test'.
If the email notifications have been correctly configured, the following message will be displayed, and the email address(es) entered in 'Test Recipients' should receive the test email.
Configuring Notification Emails
The email server settings have now been configured. The 'Default Email Success/Warning/Failure' tabs of the 'Email Settings and Defaults' page can be used to configure the default email notifications.
Any future backup definitions that are created will automatically be configured with the Success, Warning, and Failure email notification settings specified here. This article contains more information about configuring these email notification defaults.
The defaults will only apply to backup definitions that are created following the defaults being configured. Email notifications can be enabled for existing backup definition files (created before the defaults were configured) by navigating to the 'Definition Files' tab nested under the 'Create Backups' tab:
Right-click on the relevant backup definition file, then select 'Advanced Options':
Email notifications can then be enabled for this definition using the 'Email' section in the window that opens:
