Upgrading to SiteManager Platform

SiteManager Platform

We are happy to announce that SiteManager Platform is now available. This update includes a host of new features and an overhauled user interface to simplify imaging tasks. Read more about what's new in SiteManager Platform here.

Once the Site Manager installation has been upgraded to 8.1.8407, the first time that Site Manager is accessed, the following notification screen will be displayed:

Clicking 'Upgrade to SiteManager Platform' will open the upgrade wizard. This wizard is designed to simplify the upgrade process and ensure that all the license keys in Site Manager are in a state where they will be compatible with SiteManager Platform.

To ensure a smooth upgrade process, we recommend starting the upgrade process from the Site Manager server and not the Macrium Account.

MALs Becoming SBS

As part of the upgrade to SiteManager Platform, Macrium Agent Licenses (MALs) are being replaced with SiteBackup Seats (SBS). These function the same as MALs, however, do not have the minimum quantity restriction that MALs had, enabling greater flexibility.

License Compatibility

To upgrade to SiteManager Platform, all licenses that have been added to the Site Manager should be compatible with SiteManager Platform. Licenses that are not compatible with SiteManager Platform should be upgraded or dropped and used on a different Site Manager 8 installation. The upgrade wizard will guide this process, ensuring that all licenses are in a state ready to be used with SiteManager Platform.

There are several different types of license that may be present in your Site Manager 8 server, including a combination of different license types. Click the links below to learn more about the upgrade flow for each license type:

- MAL Annual Plan

- MAL Perpetual

- In Support

- Out of Support

- Standalone Subscription

- Standalone Perpetual License

- Being used in Standalone Macrium Reflect

- Standalone Perpetual Managed as a MAL

- Upgrading to SiteManager Platform Offline

- Annual Plan

- Perpetual

- v7 or older licenses

MAL Annual Plan

Annual Plan keys are compatible with SiteManager Platform and do not require any upgrade steps to be taken when upgrading to SiteManager Platform. In the upgrade wizard, they will be displayed as 'Annual Plan' with a green check indicating that they will continue to function correctly post-upgrade:

MAL Perpetual

In Support

If the MAL one-time purchase license is in support, it will be eligible for an upgrade to a one-time-purchase SiteBackup Seat. These licenses will be displayed as 'V8 - One-time Purchase' in the upgrade wizard.

To ensure a smooth transition to SiteManager Platform, all support expiries must be extended past 2025/04/01. This will also ensure easier license management in the future.  To upgrade the licenses and extend the support, select the relevant licenses then select 'Upgrade Licenses'.

If the MAL one-time purchase license already has support past this date, it will be eligible for a free upgrade to a one-time purchase SiteBackup Seat license for use with SiteManager Platform:

Out of Support

If the MAL perpetual license is out of support, it will not be eligible for an upgrade to a SiteBackup Seat. However, special offers will be available to existing users when purchasing SiteBackup Seat licenses.

To view the available offers, select the licenses from the table and then select 'Upgrade Licenses'. This will open the upgrade wizard in the default browser, displaying the available offers.

Alternatively, the licenses can be removed from the Site Manager using the 'Delete' button. These licenses can then be used on a none upgraded Site Manager 8 installation.

Standalone Subscription

Standalone licenses can be used to install Macrium Reflect on a workstation or server; the Site Manager agent can be installed alongside the standalone edition, this satisfies any licensing requirements in Site Manager.

Standalone subscription licenses will be shown on the 'Standalone Licenses' page of the upgrade wizard:

Standalone subscription licenses are always eligible for an upgrade to Macrium Reflect X. This upgrade can be claimed using Standalone Macrium Reflect that is installed on the managed SiteBackup Agent computer. The first time that Standalone Macrium Reflect is launched, you will be prompted to perform the upgrade:

Learn more about upgrading the standalone edition here.

If standalone Macrium Reflect 8 is installed on the same computer as the Site Manager server, Reflect 8 should be upgraded to Reflect X before updating Site Manager to SiteManager Platform.

Standalone Perpetual License

Being used in Standalone Macrium Reflect

Standalone perpetual licenses that have been used to install Standalone Macrium Reflect should be upgraded using Standalone Macrium Reflect installed on the SiteBackup Agent computer. The upgrade paths available to the perpetual standalone key can vary depending on when it was purchased, and its support status.  This article contains more information about upgrading the standalone licenses.

If standalone Macrium Reflect 8 is installed on the same computer as the Site Manager server, Reflect 8 should be upgraded to Reflect X before updating Site Manager to SiteManager Platform.

Standalone Perpetual Managed as a MAL

Until SiteManager Platform's release, Standalone Macrium Reflect licenses could be added directly to the Site Manager, where they will act as a single-seat MAL license.

To simplify licensing, with SiteManager Platform, standalone licenses can no longer be added directly to SiteManager Platform and must be used to install standalone Macrium Reflect.

The upgrade wizard will display these licenses as 'V8 - One-time Purchase':

Since SiteManager Platform no longer supports Standalone Macrium Reflect licenses being managed as a single-seat MAL, these licenses need to be migrated to SiteBackup Seat licenses to continue being managed by the central console; depending on the support status of the license, different upgrade options will be available. Alternatively, the license can be deleted from the Site Manager server and used to install Standalone Macrium Reflect.

Upgrading to SiteManager Platform Offline

Since offline Site Manager servers don't have access to the internet, additional steps are required to upgrade the Site Manager to SiteManager Platform. License keys should be in a state where they are compatible with SiteManager Platform before the offline Site Manager 8 server is upgraded.

For offline upgrades, we recommend starting the license upgrade process from the Macrium Account here.

Annual Plans

Annual Plan keys are compatible with SiteManager Platform and do not require any upgrade steps to be taken while upgrading to SiteManager Platform. As a result, the SiteManager Platform installer can be run to upgrade the Site Manager without any licensing considerations. Download the SiteManager Platform installer here.

Perpetual MAL Licenses

Perpetual MAL licenses will need to be upgraded to SiteBackup Seat licenses to work with SiteManager Platform. To review the upgrade options and paths for these licenses, select 'Upgrade' next to the relevant product card in your Macrium Account.

Once all the licenses in Site Manager have been upgraded, the Site Manager server can be upgraded to SiteManager Platform by running the installer downloaded here.

After the SiteManager Platform has been installed, offline activate the new license keys that were created during the license upgrade. This article details how to offline activate these licenses.
