SiteManager Platform New Features

What is SiteManager Platform?

SiteManager Platform is Macrium's central management platform that simplifies and centralizes backup, recovery, and image deployment. If you are using Macrium Site Manager or Macrium SiteDeploy already, all existing functionality remains available as part of the SiteManager Platform. Site Manager (now SiteBackup) and SiteDeploy now exist as solutions within the SiteManager Platform, enabling more complete control over the solutions that you implement, whether you need backup and recovery, image deployment, or both.

Up to x2 Faster

SiteManager Platform introduces substantial enhancements in the performance of image creation, restore, and deployment setting a new standard in data protection and deployment speed and reliability.

With a move to Zstandard (zstd) compression, an advanced open-source compression and decompression engine, and improved multithreading Macrium SiteBackup and SiteDeploy can create, restore, and deploy images up to twice as fast as previously.

These improvements drastically reduce the amount of time taken when backing up large volumes of data, helping meet Recovery Point Objective (RPO) targets by enabling more frequent backups to be created; the reduction in time taken to create images also reduces the vector for network errors to disrupt backups. Faster restore times will help meet Recovery Time Objective (RTO) targets by reducing the amount of time taken to recover from downtime.

Faster image deployments reduce the Time to First Service (TTFS) when setting up endpoints for the first time whether this is laptops in an office environment, point of sale systems in a retail setting, or student and teacher workstations or computer labs in a school or university.

PXE Rescue Media

Computers can now be booted with SiteBackup rescue media over the network with SiteBackup's PXE server, enabling more streamlined ad hoc restores when a USB rescue media is not available. SiteBackup will create all of the files necessary to PXE boot the rescue media meaning it can be used with existing PXE infrastructure (e.g. TinyPXE or WDS) or SiteBackup's out-of-the-box PXE server can be activated for zero configuration PXE booting. With SiteBackup's 'Proxy-DHCP', DHCP options don't even need to be configured, perfect for when the DHCP server cannot be easily configured.

This provides additional flexibility over how computers are recovered further reducing downtime and helping meet or beat RTO targets. No matter the disaster that has occurred, recovery is more streamlined than ever.

File Filtering

SiteBackup can now exclude file paths during image creation. These paths are configured during the creation of 'Definitions', and include some convenient and safe 'Preset Exclusions'; 'Custom Paths' can also be specified for more granular control:

This gives you greater control over exactly what should be backed up in your environment, more granular control over storage requirements, and can reduce the amount of time taken for backup and restore processes.

Write Failure Retrying

SiteBackup now has improved error handling. Previously, transient write errors like a network disconnect would cause a backup to fail. SiteBackup will not attempt to retry the write for a user-specified amount of time following the error. In the case of transient errors in unreliable networks, this can massively reduce the amount of time taken to successfully create images.

Improved SiteBackup Licensing

SiteBackup now includes more customer-centric, granular licensing. Previously, Macrium Agent Licenses (MALs) had to be purchased in minimum amounts of 5 seats. SiteBackup implements a new type of license: SiteBackup Seats (SBS).

These licenses do not have a minimum purchase size, enabling the exact amount of licenses required to be purchased. This ensures that SiteBackup is scalable, from the small business environments with odd numbers of computers, up to the largest enterprise networks.
