- Resolving Missing Windows Explorer Shell Extensions
Overview
Macrium Reflect includes Windows Shell extensions that extend the functionality of the Windows Shell to display additional information about Macrium Reflect backup files when viewing the files in Explorer, enable easy imaging of volumes, and browsing and restoring backups. More information about Windows Explorer Shell extensions can be found here.
These Windows Shell extensions may be missing following events like Windows OS upgrades or interference from third-party security software.
Resolving Missing Windows Explorer Shell Extensions
If you are unable to see the Windows Explorer Shell extensions, open an elevated command prompt and run the following commands:
CD "C:\Program Files\Macrium\Reflect"
regsvr32 RContextMenu.dll
regsvr32 RShellEx.dll
After running the commands, the following confirmation messages will be displayed:
If Macrium Reflect has been installed in a non-default location, change 'C:\Program Files\Macrium\Reflect' to the correct installation folder.
Following these commands, restart the system. The Windows Shell extensions will then be visible in Explorer.
