Upgrading to SiteManager Platform FAQs

Can I continue with my current support and maintenance?

Yes. Customers can renew existing support and maintenance contracts until the product reaches end of life, then switch to the latest version for free (annual plan or one-time purchase). Support, maintenance, and upgrades continue as long as the support and maintenance contract does not lapse.  The option to buy back into support and maintenance after lapsing is no longer available. For clarity, existing support and maintenance plans are grandfathered for current customers so that they can continue uninterrupted. New or lapsed customers cannot buy into old plans.

What happens if I don’t have active support and maintenance?

You can continue to use your current version of Macrium Site Manager and will continue to receive security updates and bug fixes until the end of life for this version.  You will not be entitled to receive any new features or any free upgrade to the latest version of Macrium SiteBackup (eg. to access the latest SiteManager platform).

Any customer with perpetual MAL or standalone licenses will receive a 33% discount on 1, 3 and 5 year plans when buying before 31st March 2025. Contact your local representative for more information.

What happens if I have a mixture of MALs and standalone?

Standalone licenses acting as MALs can be converted to SiteBackup seats for free (if in enough support)  if you prefer centralized management. Alternatively, you can drop the standalone key from SiteManager, convert it to a subscription, update Reflect, and use it as a standalone.

For a mix of licenses, MALs and standalone licenses must be upgraded or converted together. If retaining standalone functionality, licenses will need to be managed separately from SiteManager.

Can I add new SiteBackup Seats to my existing licenses?

Yes - For each SiteManager server instance, software updates are only available up to the earliest expiration date among your licenses. For example, if you have two SiteBackup licenses—one expiring in April and another in June— SiteManager server updates can only be installed up to the earliest date, i.e. April.

As part of the upgrade process, the upgrade wizard will by default coterm your licenses so that you have full access to all updates on that SiteManger server.  If you need to override this, you can drop a license and use it on another SiteManager server; alternatively, contact customer support.

How long will you continue to support Macrium Site Manager MALs (Macrium Agent Licenses)?

We’re changing the terminology to be clearer as MALs could be confusing (bundles of agent licenses).  These are now referred to as SiteBackup seats that can be purchased in any quantity with no minimum order requirement.  For clarity 1 SiteBackup seat = 1 Macrium agent license, these will be converted automatically for you during the upgrade process. MALs not converted to SiteBackup seats will continue working on the old platform.

How long will you continue to support Macrium Site Manager 8?

As with our previous releases, we will continue to support system-critical updates and fixes for one year after the release of Macrium SiteBackup. However, we recommend moving to Macrium SiteBackup for the most secure and up-to-date version.

We will continue to offer technical support until further notice for customers that have an active plan with maintenance.  After EOL you may be required to upgrade. Contact one of our Customer Success specialists or your licensing partner to ensure a smooth transition to Macrium SiteBackup.

Are Site Manager 8 backups compatible with SiteBackup?

Yes - Backups made with Site Manager 8 will continue to work with SiteBackup.

What is SiteBackup, and how does it fit into SiteManager?

Macrium SiteBackup powered by the SiteManager platform has evolved based on our experience providing backup and recovery to enterprises and businesses of all sizes that have critical systems. This update reflects Macrium's commitment to developing a centralized management platform that significantly lowers the total cost of ownership while providing the advanced features demanded by large-scale deployments.

What is the difference between SiteBackup and Reflect X? How are they licensed? How do I purchase?

Reflect X is our flagship backup and recovery solution for standalone machines on an individual basis. It is ideal for businesses that have a small number of systems to backup or have systems that need to be partially or fully air-gapped (we understand security is critical consideration and now offer offline activation for all business licences including annual plans (subscriptions).

SiteBackup provides a much more scalable and centrally managed solution for businesses, built using the same expertise and technology that powers Reflect X. SiteBackup reduces your total cost of ownership by allowing you to install, manage and monitor backup agents remotely and at scale, with additional functionality for available reporting. Helping you manage your backup strategy and ensure compliance.

For businesses, Reflect X can be purchased for either Workstation or Server workloads. Annual plans can be purchased individually (via our website) or for Enterprise purchases (via our Sales/Reseller teams).

SiteBackup can also be purchased as an annual plan for workstations or servers online or through our Sales Experts or Resellers for Enterprise purchases. Feel free to contact us (or one of our resellers) if you would like to purchase an Enterprise plan tailored to your needs.

What happens to metered billing?

Metered billing (for MSPs only)  is unaffected by the change from Site Manager MALs to SiteBackup seats.
