Managing Definitions

All existing backup definitions can be viewed on the 'Definitions' tab:

Selecting a definition from the list will display more information about it:

Selecting one of the action buttons next to the definition name will perform an action:

Run Now

This button can be clicked to manually run an ad hoc backup. This opens the 'Run Now' wizard.

Computers

On the first page of the wizard, select the computers included in the definition that will be backed up :

If the 'Wake on LAN' option is selected, disconnected computers may be selected as well as connected ones. The SiteBackup server will attempt to wake any disconnected computers up as part of the backup process.

The Wake-on-LAN option allows detailed Wake-on-LAN options to be set:

Options

On the 'Options' page, specify which repository will be used, as well as the level of backup that will be performed (full, differential, or incremental). Power saving options can also be specified that will be applied to the computer(s) post-backup:

If enabled, the power saving options can be configured to either shut down, hibernate, suspend, or reboot the selected computers after the backup is complete. The selected computers can also be forced to close all running programs before performing the power-saving action.

Selecting 'Run' will run the backup with the selected options. Run now backups can be seen in the forecast on the 'Dashboard' page.

Backup Types

If a differential or incremental backup is selected without a corresponding full backup in the repository to base the differential or incremental backup on, the computer will perform a full backup instead.

Copy

This button enables an existing definition to be rapidly copied. This can be useful when creating a new definition with similar settings to an existing definition. When 'Copy' is selected, a window will be displayed prompting for a name for the new definition:

After selecting 'OK', the new definition will be shown in the list of existing definitions and will have exactly the same configuration as the copied definition:

Edit

The 'Edit' button can be used to change the settings specified in any of the definition files. This is the same process used in creating a backup definition except the wizard will be pre-populated with data from the selected definition. When editing a backup definition the 'Finish' button may be pressed at any stage and not just the final one.

Delete

This button will delete the selected definition. It is important to note that deletion of a definition is permanent.
