Overview

If you are unable to remotely install the SiteBackup Agent, potentially due to network and firewall constraints, the installer for the SiteBackup Agent can be downloaded from the SiteBackup server and used to install the agent manually.

Downloading the Agent Installers

The MSI installers can be downloaded from the 'Computers' page of SiteBackup. On the 'Computers' page, select 'More Actions' then 'Manual Agent installation':

In the window that opens, the 32-bit and 64-bit installers for the SiteBackup Agent can be downloaded, as well as the 64-bit and 32-bit Agent Config Tools used to configure SiteBackup agents, enable remote installation, and troubleshoot communication issues.

Alternatively, the agent MSI installers can be found on the SiteManager Platform server in the folder:

C:\Program Files\Macrium\SiteManager\AgentFiles.

Installing the SiteBackup Agent Manually

Copy the relevant SiteBackup Agent installer to the target computer, and run by double-clicking in Windows Explorer. The SiteBackup Agent can also be installed using the command line, for more information on command line installation, see this article.

On the 'Installation Options' page of the installer, two options are available:

Desktop Shortcuts - This option controls whether the installer will create desktop or start menu shortcuts. In situations where users on the agent computer should not interact with the SiteBackup Agent, this option should be left unchecked.

Install Changed Block Tracker (CBT) - This option will install the CBT driver, which is used by the SiteBackup Agent to increase the performance of incremental backups. This option will be disabled if the computer's OS cannot support this driver. This option requires the agent computer to be restarted before the CBT driver will be used when performing incremental backups; incremental backups will still run but may take slightly longer than they would if CBT is being used.

Connecting the SiteBackup Agent to the SiteBackup Server

Once the installation has been completed, the Agent Configuration Tool will automatically open. This can be used to configure the SiteBackup Agent's connection to the SiteBackup server.

The 'Connection' section of the 'Agent Configuration Tool' controls the TCP port that the SiteBackup Agent will use when attempting to connect to the SiteBackup server (51515 by default), and the connection method(s) and details for the connection.

Since the SiteBackup Agent has not connected to a SiteBackup server yet, the table will be empty.

Select 'Add' to add a connection method for the SiteBackup server. In the window that opens, enter the connection details of the SiteBackup server next to the relevant connection method. The SiteBackup Agent requires the IP (IPv4 or IPv6) address of the SiteBackup server, but can also resolve the NetBIOS or DNS name to the IP.

Select 'Add' to add the connection details to the table.

By clicking the 'Test' button the Agent Configuration Tool will attempt to connect to the SiteBackup server with all the specified connection methods. The results of the test will then be reported in the table:

If at least one test in the table is reported as 'Successful' the agent will be able to connect to SiteBackup server. If all the tests in the table are reported as 'Failed' check this article for assistance troubleshooting the connection issue.

Adding the Manually Installed Agent to SiteBackup

For security reasons, by default, the computer still needs to be added from the server side for SiteBackup to begin managing the computer. This behavior can be configured on the 'Agents' page of the SiteManager Platform settings, read more about this here.

To add the computer to SiteBackup, select the '+ Add' button on the 'Computers' page of SiteBackup. In the window that opens the 'Add Computers Attempting to Connect' option will be active and display the number of computers that are attempting to connect to SiteBackup.

The 'Select Computers' page will display any computers that have been configured to communicate with the SiteBackup server. Users can select computers to be added to SiteBackup using the table on this page:

If there are no computers attempting to communicate with the SiteBackup server, this option will be disabled on the 'Add Method' page of the wizard. This indicates that the manually installed SiteBackup Agent is not communicating with SiteBackup and may indicate a network issue.
