Overview
Macrium uses Volume Shadow Copy Service (VSS) to create disk images, file and folder backups, and disk clones. Windows keeps a log of VSS events; these events provide additional information about VSS processes. These events may be useful when troubleshooting backups that have failed due to a VSS error.
Macrium Reflect can be used to quickly launch a Windows Event Viewer dialog that is filtered to show these VSS events.
Viewing Windows VSS Events
To easily view VSS events in the Windows Event Viewer, select the 'Other Tasks' dropdown menu in Macrium Reflect, then select 'View Windows VSS Events...':
The search parameters can be adjusted at the top of the page to change the amount of time being displayed and the error level of the event. Once the parameters have been changed, the Event Viewer window will update automatically to show any events that match the parameters:
Selecting an event will display detailed information about the event at the bottom of the page to assist with further troubleshooting.
