Overview
The Macrium Technician's License enables the creation of the technician's rescue media. This powerful rescue media includes a portable version of Macrium Reflect, which can be used to image systems without the need for any software installation.
Creating an Image with the Technician's Rescue Media
First, we recommend ensuring that the technician's rescue media has been created by following the steps in this article; this can be a USB drive, CD/DVD, or even an ISO file when imaging virtual machines.
Once the technician's rescue media has been created, attach the rescue media to the system that will be imaged.
Launching the Portable Macrium Reflect Application
Once the technician's rescue media has been connected to the system, open the drive in Windows File Explorer nd launch 'portable.exe', which can be found in the root of the rescue media drive:
Creating an Image with the Portable Application
On the 'Create Backups' page of the Portable Macrium Reflect Application, the disks that are connected locally to the system will be displayed.
If the system contains multiple disks that need to be imaged, select 'Image selected disks on this computer' under the 'Create Backup Tasks' menu to image multiple disks simultaneously:
In this example, the system only contains a single disk; 'Image this disk...', can be selected under the disk to open the disk image wizard:
The partitions that will be included in the disk image can be further edited on the first page of the image wizard. Any partition that has a check in the selection checkbox will be included in the disk image:
The destination for the image is specified at the bottom of this page. The destination can be a local drive or a network share specified in UNC format (\\Server\Share). A name can also be specified for the resultant image file to help organize image files from multiple systems. Read more about backup file naming here. Select 'Next >' to proceed with the wizard.
The final page of the wizard shows a summary of the image that will be created:
'Advanced Options' can be selected on either page of the wizard to specify additional options for how the image is created. More information about these options can be found here.
Select 'Finish' to complete the wizard. Reflect Monitor will then open and display the progress of the image creation:
Once the image has been created, it can be viewed on the 'Existing Backups' tab of the Portable Macrium Reflect application:
The technician's rescue media can now be ejected and removed from the system. These steps can then be repeated on additional computers to protect as many systems as necessary.
