Overview

The majority of backups and recoveries using the Technician's License are performed using the technician's rescue media. Although the Technician's License does include a fully functional version of Macrium Reflect Server, this is primarily used to create the technician's rescue media. If you have not done so already, follow the steps in this article to install the Macrium Reflect Server.

Once the Macrium Reflect Server has been installed, follow the steps below to create the technician's rescue media. The Macrium Reflect Server can create a variety of different rescue media. This article details how to create the technician's rescue media using a USB drive.

Launching the Macrium Rescue Media Builder

The technician's rescue media can be created using the 'Rescue' button on the quick actions menu at the top of Macrium Reflect or by selecting the 'Create Rescue Media...' option in the 'Other Tasks' menu on the top bezel:

Both of these options will open the 'Macrium Rescue Media Builder'.

For the majority of use cases, the default options that are selected in the Macrium Rescue Media Builder will be the best options. For advanced use cases, the 'Advanced' button can be used to change the options that are being used to create the rescue media.

Under 'Select Device', ensure that 'Removable USB Flash Drive' is selected. If multiple USB drives are selected, ensure that the correct USB drive has been selected for the technician's rescue media creation.

At the bottom of the page, check the 'Create Portable Technician's Rescue Media' option. If this option is left unchecked, a non-technician's rescue media will be created, lacking the Macrium Reflect Portable Application.

When the 'Create Portable Technician's Rescue Media' option is selected, an internet connection is required to create the rescue media.
